One interesting point: the 2018 draft, even though may not be very "deep", promised to be "loaded" at the top, that means the top candidates are excellent prospects. There will be a few tall, big candidates who are athletic, and can also shoot the ball (the Towns/Embiid type), at the top. If the Celtics have not traded away their Nets' pick, they will have two 1st round picks: from Lakers & Nets. The Lakers' pick is protected 1 & 6-30. So if the Celtics are lucky, they will be able to pick two big, athletic players from the top 5. That will transform their front court into one of the strongest in nba in the near future. That, plus the team's emphasis on defense and team works, will likely make them the top East team in the near future. However, now that they have traded away Nets' pick, they will have to hope that the Lakers' pick will fall into 2-5 (or they will have to wait until 2019). Right now, the Lakers are ranked around #20 (out of 30 teams), so the chance that their pick will fall into that range is not that high.... |
